I want to preface by saying I typically love your beans! But man oh man… the decaf was not good. Sharp in all the wrong places and didn’t mellow even as it cooled. I did a pour over extraction and my technique is usually pretty consistent, but I just couldn’t get a good brew. The roast was inconsistent (like I could actually see the visual inconsistencies) and half the beans looked like they were roasted too long. Propeller (Swiss water) or Subtext (ethyl acetate) does a decaf that is really toned well. I know the nature of decaffeination usually means a slightly fuller mouth feel and Carmelita notes vs things like jam or cherries, but no decaf should taste like charcoal. I hope the next one’s better!
